Kind e-mail from Richard Best….
In appreciation of your work.
Dear Graham:
I am writing to express my appreciation for the fine piece of work you have created in “The Permaculture Garden”.
Since retirement from a 40 year woodworking career, my sights have been set on gardening, and not just any gardening, but the notion of some sort of sustainable system recognizing that something will grow anywhere, so it’s just a case of finding the appropriate something for each of the micro-climates of our small lot.
Gardening friends and acquaintances started throwing this term permaculture around, so I started to investigate. As a compulsive book purchaser when I had income, I’ve learned to use our fabulous Canadian inter-library lending system. This allows me to get books from many libraries of the lower coast of British Columbia sent to my local library here on Bowen Island.
Sadly, I had to return my copy of your fine book today; I had made it through to the page with the chickens in the greenhouse structure, however, I have ordered two copies through the Book Depository out of the UK.
Your book is specifically useful to me in the pursuit of my life’s new calling as gardener as a spiritual practice for two reasons, namely scale and climatic location.
Scale, because I am a backyard gardener, and climatic location as our maritime climate is very close to what you experience.
What a happy coincidence.
so great appreciation for your life’s work and
a very Happy New Year to you.
Richard Best
