Thinning

No not going bald just trying to manage very heavy fruit set – especially apples – this year.

This is a Borders apple called Stobo Castle, before thinning

… and after

…and the thinnings (can always be used as a source of pectin for jelly making)

Process ensures the trees don’t become over-burdened and also reduces risk of biennialism – heavy crop one year followed by none the next.
