Soil is the most important thing…

…for the survival of the human race.

Good soils require pore space for air and water and drainage; a balance of nutrients; good structure; humus, living creatures (soil biota) and (as much as anything else) mycelium- fungi- living and connecting plants together.  They’re not very obvious as they work away underground.  But sometime they show themselves through their fruiting bodies.  Like this (almost psychedelic).

Just participated in the Permaculture Association soil survey.  Blown away by how many active earthworms there are on our ground.

On our courses over the last couple of years it has become clear to me that the best contribution we can make to the peaceful future of humankind is to create fabulous topsoil.
