During 2017, Dave Watson from FOLDYARD was Artist in Residence at Red Shed Nursery while he worked on ‘Gardens and Uncultivated Spaces’. A series of paintings made out in untamed nature, on farmlands, in private and public gardens – and at Red Shed Nursery. His aim at Red Shed was to record by paint, drawing and photography, the garden as it changed through the year. As the garden moved from the sparsity of winter to the ebullience of summer, Dave worked outdoors in the garden. Sheltering when necessary in the sheds and under cover in the garden. Participating in various Red Shed events open to members of the public gave visitors an opportunity to see how the work had progressed and ask questions. Dave’s partner in FOLDYARD, the printmaker Morag Eaton, produced work based on his drawings and reinterpreted them as mixed media screen prints. Joining him for Apple Day and producing a monotype print on the spot.
The project was initially intended to last the year, but time spent at Red Shed has provided so fruitful that Dave is looking to continuing his association. He says “I found Graham, Nancy and all involved with Red Shed Nursery wonderful to work with.”
Dave & Morag have a current exhibition at Queen’s Hall Hexham, (“Have a read of Dave Pritchard’s review on corridor8.co.uk and what the Hexham Courant had to say about our work.- including the magic word Permaculture.”) and they will be opening a new gallery in Berwick-upon-Tweed in the Spring.
